Chicks are like a baby. The various organs of the body have just begun to develop. The body temperature regulation center, digestive system, and immune system are not fully developed. Through the brooding period, lay a solid foundation for subsequent growth and development.

1--Physiological characteristics of broiler chickens

(1)The growth rate is fast, and it is normally fed for 42 to 45 days.

(2) The feeding cycle is short and the turnover is fast.

At present, broilers are reared from the shell, and it generally takes 6 and a half weeks to reach market weight. Sweep, wash, and empty the house for two weeks. In this way, a batch of broilers can basically be raised in 10 weeks, and a chicken house can turn over at least 5 batches per year.

(3) High feed conversion rate.

The feed-to-meat ratio of broiler chicks is the lowest among all meat-using livestock and poultry.

The level of broiler feeding efficiency mainly depends on genetic factors and feeding management factors. Genetic factors cannot be changed, but the quality of feeding management can be adjusted artificially to meet the various needs of different growth and development stages as much as possible.

2--Choose a variety.

Choosing a good breed is the key to raising a good broiler.

At present, Aviin, AA, Kebao, Ross, and other broiler breeds are better in the Dandong area. The chicks of these breeds grow faster, have stronger anti-virus ability, and have higher feed remuneration. Therefore, chicks bred by healthy flocks of breeder farms with a good reputation and "Breeding Livestock and Poultry Business License" should be selected. Weak chicks have poor adaptability, are prone to death, have low feed remuneration, and are easy to introduce infectious diseases, which will bring losses to chickens.

3-- Matters needing attention during feeding

(1) Temperature control.

When the chicks enter the chicken house, it is absolutely necessary to ensure that the temperature in the house reaches 33-35°C, and then it is advisable to drop 2°C every week until it drops to about 20°C. Diseases such as ascites are caused by chronic hypoxia.

(2) Appropriate density.

Broiler flocks should not be too large. Generally, strong, weak, large, and small groups are carried out according to the season. The stocking density is generally 10-15 per square meter. If the density is too high, it will cause uneven feed intake and drinking water, and weak chicks will grow weaker because they cannot grab food and water, resulting in the unbalanced growth of chicken flocks.

(3) Feed selection.

The economic benefit of broiler chicken breeding depends to a large extent on the selection and feeding of feed, and the cost of feed generally accounts for about 80% of the cost of raising chickens. According to the growth and development needs of broilers at each stage, the feed should be replaced in a timely manner, and high-quality full-price compound pellet feed should be fed to increase their feed intake to ensure the nutritional needs of broiler growth and development.

(4) Light control.

Broiler chickens should adopt a 23-hour light and 1-hour dark system. It is advisable to install 2 to 3-watt light bulbs per square meter of the chicken house. The commonly used method is to use 25-watt bulbs for every 20 square meters, and they can be arranged in random order. Broiler chickens in winter can use intermittent light from the age of 18 days, which not only saves resources but also prevents chickens from suffering from ascites and sudden death.

(5) Timely slaughter.

One is to understand the market. The market price of broiler chickens has a great influence on the economic benefits of broiler breeding. Breeders should always understand and master broiler market information, and determine the time and quantity of broiler chickens according to the amount of breeding, market demand for broiler chickens, weather seasons, and traditional holidays; The second is to sell in a timely manner. The general feeding time of broilers is 46-52 days. Over the extended period of feeding, the feed intake of broilers increases, the weight gain rate decreases, the feed-to-meat ratio decreases, and the feeding cost increases.

(6) Chicken house site selection and construction

It is best to build the chicken house in an area with good isolation conditions, at least 1.6 kilometers away from the nearest livestock farm or other possible sources of pollution.

poultry equipment

·The poultry house should avoid the road that may transport poultry.

· Use fencing around chicken farms to avoid unwanted visitors.

·Detect the content of minerals, bacteria, and chemical substances in the water source.

·The design and construction of commercial broiler houses should prevent wild birds and animals from entering the house. All openings should be closed with plastic-coated wire mesh with a hole diameter of 2 cm. Foundations and floors are preferably constructed of concrete to prevent rodents from burrowing into the coop.

·Clean and level a 15m area around all chicken coops for quick and easy weed removal

(7) Prevent human transmission of diseases

·All entrances to chicken farms should be locked and have signs such as "No Entry" and "No Visits" to restrict visitors.

·If the manager needs to visit multiple chicken farms (more than one) in one day, it is best to visit the youngest flock first. Be sure to visit flocks with disease problems last.

·All personnel entering the chicken farm must abide by biosafety procedures. All staff and visitors entering and leaving the venue must take a bath and change into clean work clothes, which is one of the best ways to avoid cross-infection between venues. If conditions do not permit, all staff and visitors should change into clean disposable overalls and boots when they arrive at the chicken farm.

·Visitors should make detailed records, including name, unit, purpose of visit, which field they have been to before coming to this field, and which field they plan to visit.

All staff and visitors must wash and sanitize their hands and work boots when entering and exiting each house.
