1. Preparation before raising pigeons

During the pigeon breeding process, what preparations should farmers make? First of all, they must prepare pigeon breeding equipment and utensils, which mainly include pigeon cages, nest rooms, nest pots, feeding troughs, drinking fountains, health care sand cups and perches.

Pigeon cage

1. Pigeon cage material: cage-type pigeon cages are generally made of bamboo, wood and wire mesh. Large-scale pigeon farms mostly use cabinet-type multi-layer pigeon cages.

2. The specifications of pigeon cages: large-scale pigeon farms use cabinet-type multi-layer pigeon cages (the size is 45 cm high, 50 cm wide, and 70 cm deep). There are many types, but most of them use 4 layers of 8 pigeon cages. A kind of breeding pigeon that can raise 8 pairs. Individuals or professional breeding households generally build bamboo pigeon cages or use wooden strips to make frames according to local conditions. Small bamboo strips can be used around and up and down to form cages. Some frames are made of steel bars, and then surrounded by barbed wire to form cages.

nest room

1. Requirements for the nest room: it should be a wooden structure, and it can be assembled and disassembled for easy moving.

2. Nest room specifications: each nest room is divided into 5 floors, and each pair of pigeons occupies one floor, with an area of 0.86 square meters. It is divided into two parts, the front part is the pigeon rest room (about 0.12 square meters) The production room (accounting for 0.24 square meters) is divided into two equally with movable boards in the middle, as 2 nests for producing pigeons. The back of each nest room is fixed with a board, and the wooden boards on both sides can be pulled out and inserted in layers. If multiple nest rooms need to be merged, the redundant side partition can be pulled out.

nest pot

1. The function of the nest pot: the nest pot is a tool for laying eggs, brooding and brooding of pigeons. Selecting a reasonable nest pot has a certain effect on reducing the damage of pigeon eggs, improving the hatching rate and the survival rate of young pigeons.

2. Production of nest pots: commonly used nest pots are made of plastic, gypsum, wood, or made of bamboo sieves, tile pots, and grass nest pots made of straw or wheat straw.

3. Requirements for the nest pot: the diameter of the nest pot is 22-26 cm, and the depth of the pot is 8-10 cm. The nest pot is best hung inside the nest pot, making it a hammock style. It is best to put soft, warm and hygroscopic cushions in the nest pot, such as wood chips, straw, plastic sponge foam sheets, etc. This is not only convenient for cleaning and disinfection, heat preservation and ventilation, but also makes the pigeon eggs not easy to be damaged and improves the hatching rate.

The feeding trough is the feeding trough. Pigeons are required to be easy to eat, less waste, longer cleaning time, low cost, and convenient management and operation.

1. Production of feeding troughs: made of bamboo tubes, zinc iron sheets, plastics, fiberboards or wooden boards. Commonly used are bamboo feeding troughs, wooden feeding troughs and iron sheet feeding troughs.

2. Feeding trough specifications: the size of the trough is generally 40 cm long, 10 cm wide, and 8 cm deep. 1/4 of the trough is filled with health care sand, 3/4 is filled with feed, and hung flat on the cage wall outside the cage. Ride and hang between 2 pigeon cages for use by 2 adjacent pairs of producing pigeons.

If it is a feeding trough for raising meat pigeons in groups, it should be placed on the ground of the loft for collective use by pigeons.

Drinking Fountain (Sink)

1. Drinking fountain requirements

①Keep drinking water clean and sufficient, and prevent pigeons' feet or bodies from entering the drinking fountains, and prevent pigeons and garbage from polluting the drinking water.

②Keep a certain drinking water depth (generally about 2.5 cm, which can submerge the pigeon's nose tumor), and it is convenient to add water.

2. Drinking fountains for caged pigeons: There are three types of drinking fountains: cup type, trough type and water pipe drinking fountain. The commonly used trough drinking fountain is a long water tank, which can be made of iron sheet, about 5 cm high, 6 cm wide at the mouth, 4 cm wide at the bottom, and the length is the same as the length of the cage. This kind of sink is mostly used in large and medium-sized pigeon farms. Both single-row and double-row pigeonholes are available, and this kind of sink can also be welded with plastic pipes with a diameter of 5-7 cm.

3. Drinking fountains for group-raised pigeons and young pigeons: This drinking fountain can not only ensure that the pigeons can drink water continuously, but also prevent the pigeons from stepping into the drinking fountains. Its feces and feathers are not easy to fall into the water. Currently, it is often used The most popular is the plastic drinking fountain, which can hold 2500-5000 milliliters of water at a time, and is easy to use, and can always keep the drinking water clean.

Health sand cup

Health care sand is also called saline soil, which is an indispensable feed additive for pigeons to survive. It is best to use ceramics, wood or plastic products for the container of health care sand, and avoid using metal, because metal products are easy to chemically change with health care sand. Commonly used are plastic drinking cups or circular cylinders, the diameter of the upper mouth is 6 cm, and the depth should not exceed 8 cm. A small amount of health care sand is hung on the outside of the cage so that the pigeons can eat it. The simple method can also be separated in the 1/4 part of the feed trough, and the health sand is placed for the pigeons to eat.

There must be perches in the group pigeon house, which can be used by pigeons at night, during the day and on rainy days. The production of the habitat is very simple. A number of bamboo poles are nailed on two wooden sticks. The distance between each bamboo pole is about 20-30 cm. The lowest bamboo pole is required to be 40 cm from the ground to prevent moisture.
